A cold Christmas, but another light snow, light showers

Light snow and snow showers on Monday

Highs will only come into the mid-20s on Sunday, but a significant warming trend is developing.

Why the weather with meteorologist Daniel Johnson. OK. We have a white Christmas this year, the first since 2010, and more snow is coming, but we don’t expect a lot of snow tomorrow. But there will be some flakes flying and it will stick to the spots. We’ll show you an updated snow map in a few seconds, but here’s what’s happening outside. A quiet Christmas night. Santa has delivered all his presents. Hope you had a wonderful holiday celebrating all of this. 17 degrees. The current temperature is still very, very cold. Dew point four degrees. This corresponds to 56% humidity. Today’s official high is 23, and that’s it. But compared to the past few days, it is an improvement. 12 is the low temperature and we will continue to see these temperatures improve over the next few days. Right now though, most of us are in our teens, so it’s below zero and we won’t go above zero until Tuesday. So we have to wait until tomorrow. There are still some sub-zero wind chill values, especially throughout southern Indiana. So we’re seeing some biting wind chill north and west of the metro, but all of us are seeing at least single-digit wind chill. So there’s still a little breeze. I wanted to show you the dew point, because again, the dew point is a measure of the moisture in the atmosphere. The lower the number, the drier it is. These dew points are all in the single digits here. So with the CLIPPER system, we expect to bring a little snow that might not reach the ground initially. It has to fight through a little bit of dry air. This is one of the reasons we don’t expect a lot of snow on the system. Plus, it’s called CLIPPER and it’s called CLIPPER for a reason. It moves fast. It’s kind of like traveling down a rapid and you can see it right through the Ohio Valley and into the Midwest. So low pressure is just downwind. IT and continue our Monday to you. So where is it? Well, it’s near Minneapolis. Little swirls there. Just look at the snow spreading across Illinois and Missouri right now. This is where we are headed. Tomorrow it will drop to around 15 degrees and we will have more and more clouds as we move into the night. It’s going to be a weather-affecting day, especially in the morning. This is the perfect opportunity for light snow, which then tapers off into light snow as we go through the rest of the day. So here’s the planner for Monday. As we approached noon, some objected to the early and then low twenties. Light snow is most likely for the first half of the day, then cloudy for the rest of tomorrow. The high temperature will reach above 20 degrees. So some of us may be near freezing, but we’ll stay below freezing again. Winter weather alerts for the entire region. Well, we only have the winter weather forecast right now, and that’s for Shelby county, Henry county, Oldham county west point, which includes the metro, and it could be cumulative, maybe up to an inch, maybe a little bit more west of the metro. We will show you our upcoming snow map. But this is snow time. At 5 in the morning, it approaches the subway at six at 7:00. Light snow in most areas by 9 or 10am, then fast moving. Leave here in the afternoon. There are only a few remaining small snowflakes throughout the area. Not a big deal, but if we’re past the morning, the ground is still cold. So anything that falls will stick. So we’re looking right, I’m 65 and point east up to an inch, maybe an inch or less. But if you go west, just west of the courthouse, and head towards BEDFORD, the Pale Brit might even go an inch, maybe two, towards LITCHFIELD. It’s a possibility, since this Clippers has passed, but not a big deal. Here is your 7 day forecast. See how hot these are. Climb to close to 64 by the end of the week. So tomorrow will affect the weather because there will be some humidity tomorrow. But by this time next week, the weather will be too warm for snow.Well, at least we won’t be wearing as many clothes for New Year’s celebrations as we are now

Highs will only come into the mid-20s on Sunday, but a significant warming trend is developing.

Louisville is officially having a white Christmas this year, but roads have had problems the past few days. Sunday’s sunshine helped melt a little snow, but subfreezing temperatures are creating slick patches, especially at night. It’s going to snow again on Monday. Snow accumulation should stay on the lighter side, an inch or less. Some places may see higher numbers, especially the West.
