Algolia Appoints Sean Mullaney as New Chief Technology Officer

San Francisco – (Business Wire) – Algolia, the leading API-first search and discovery platform, today announced Sean Mullaney as the company’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). With experience scaling a best-in-class engineering organization, developing AI search and discovery technologies, and growing API-first solutions globally, Mullaney is well-suited to support Algolia’s rapid pace of growth and innovation.

Co-founder and former CTO Julien Lemoine, who built Algolia into a $2.25B search and discovery industry leader processing 1.5 trillion search queries per year, helped lead Mullaney’s search process and continues to be active as an advisor Involvement in Algolia. Mullaney joins Algolia from Stripe, where he most recently served as European CIO and led a global engineering organization that oversaw the development and operations of more than 40 native payment methods in Europe, Asia and the Americas that processed hundreds of billions of dollars.

Prior to Stripe, Mullaney oversaw the development of an AI-driven discovery experience including search, recommendations, personalization and browsing as VP of Engineering at Zalando, Europe’s largest e-commerce fashion retailer with nearly 50 million active customers. Mullaney also led innovation teams at Google for more than seven years, including three years at Google Research Labs in Silicon Valley.
