Briglin Named 2022 VBSR Lawmaker of the Year

Honored at VBSR Legislative Breakfast on Dec. 9

vermont business journal Vermont Business for Social Responsibility (VBSR) presented Democratic Vermont State Representative Tim Briglin of Thetford (Windsor-Orange 2) with the 2022 VBSR Legislator of the Year Award. Rep. Briglin will be named Legislator of the Year at the 2022 VBSR Legislative Breakfast on Dec. 9, when the VBSR will also announce its 2023 legislative agenda.

VBSR is a statewide not-for-profit business association whose mission is to harness the power of business to have positive social and environmental impact. VBSR supports legislation centered on Vermont’s economic strength, universal health care, workplace quality, environmental protection, and a shift to local renewable energy.

“As someone who strongly believes in the ability and duty of business to have a positive impact on society, I am humbled by this recognition from VBSR,” said the Rep. brigling. “During my tenure as a state legislator, I focused on health care affordability, universal access to broadband, and laying the groundwork for accountability and resilience in the face of the climate emergency facing our state. If we are to continue to address these challenges, a business community that supports a healthy environment, the needs of working families and the health of our state’s economy will is crucial.”

He has represented Norwich, Sharon, Stratford and Thetford Townships in the Vermont House of Representatives for the past eight years. For the past four years, he chaired the House Energy and Technology Committee and was a member of the Joint Finance Committee. Brigling is not seeking re-election this fall.

Rep. Briglin steers investments in Vermont’s climate workforce and is a leader in leveraging state and federal funding to deploy broadband across the state. He was also the lead sponsor of Vermont’s baseline climate law, the Global Warming Solutions Act, and an advocate for higher minimum wages, universal paid family leave, affordable health care, and child care reform.

After two decades of involvement in Vermont politics, Rep. Brigling is a Democrat who was first elected to the Assembly in 2014. He had worked on multiple Leahy, Welch, Markowitz and Obama campaigns before. In the early 1990s, Brigling worked for Senator Patrick Leahy in Washington, D.C., as his legislative aide on budget, tax and economic issues. He was a member of the Vermont delegation, participated in the 2008 and 2012 Democratic National Conventions, and has served as treasurer for the Vermont Democratic Party.

Rep. Brigling graduated cum laude from Cornell University in 1988 with a degree in history and government and in 1995 received an MBA from Stanford University. He is currently a Managing Partner of Tuckerman Capital, a firm he co-founded in 2001, a Director of Mascoma Bank, and a Trustee of the Windham Foundation. Brigling and his wife Laurel have two college-age boys.

Registration for the 2022 VBSR Legislative Breakfast remains open and the popular gathering of VBSR members, policy makers, advocates and state officials is expected to be packed. The annual event will be held on Friday, December 9th from 8:00-10:00 am at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center at 60 Lake Street in Burlington.
