Chandler, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) – John Shaviner owns a Chandler auto repair shop, which he has operated for over a decade.
“We’re focused on electrical and computer tuning. That kind of stuff,” Savina said. Part of being a business owner means opening the corporate mail that Savina does every day. Recently, he said he received some emails about him. Here are nine different cards from the Maricopa County Records Office, all with his business address on it, but under nine different names he didn’t recognize. “The card says Internet, and it’s also in Spanish. You click it and you’re done,” Schavina said.
He said the cards really piqued his interest, especially since none of the names Soto, Garcia or Hernandez were ringing alarm bells in his mind. He said he had never hired anyone with those last names before, and he wondered why the county mailed the cards to his company. “I just don’t understand why they’re coming to my address, or why the names are associated with my address,” Savina said. On Your Side contacted the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, which handles voter registration and early voting.
A spokesman said in an email that they relied on information collected from the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles about people who are “not registered to vote, 18 years of age or older, and U.S. citizens.”They also said that some of the MVD data may be out of date, which would “lead to [s] Many postcards were sent to inaccurate or old addresses. They also said that “voters must still meet registration requirements and provide proof of citizenship.” “
Savina said he was glad to hear that MVD knew and found its bottom on your side. “That’s why I contacted you [On Your Side]. I want you to look into it and see, ‘Hey, why? ‘”
The Arizona MVD said the nine people on the postcards had applied for and received ID cards as early as 1991, more than 30 years ago. Since 1990, they have not done any MVD activities to update old information.
