USDA continues construction of a new Agricultural Research Technology Center in East Salinas. The center will research sustainable production of crops. It will be administered by the Agricultural Research Service. ARS is a research agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. ARS estimates that every $1 in agricultural research has an economic impact of $20. Work on the site initially began in 2020, when it ran groundbreaking virtual and in-person events. The facility will complement the ARS Crop Improvement and Protection Research Laboratory, which is on-site. The USDA said the updated facility will be state-of-the-art, including laboratories, greenhouses and additional capacity for scientists. UC Davis has partnered with ARS for nearly 100 years. The USDA said the new facility will expand its collaboration with the university.
