Hobart Institute of Welding Technology provides $60,000 equipment to Hillsborough High School

On October 6th, the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology donated $60,000 worth of equipment to the Hillsborough High School Welding Program.

gentlemen. Welding Director Pohlman was interviewed by HHS Yearbook and Journalism Faculty Mrs. Lockbaum. When asked how these new machines will be used in the classroom, Pohlman said, “These welders will be used in the classroom, allowing my students to have more welding time in each class period instead of having to wait for the welder. The welders are also Digital readouts, which will allow students to make more adjustments to better suit their welding style.”

Another question he raised was why Hillsboro High School was chosen for the donation.

“I chose Hillsborough because I took a professional development course at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology this summer called Collaborate to Educate,” says Pohlman. “When I attended the event, I got to know some of the Hobart staff and explained the situation at our school and my vision for the project. I also explained how expensive metal is, as is new equipment, and how I plan to expand the dollar as much as possible.

“Hillsborough also sends a large number of students to their schools, so I think the combination of PD and sending students is why Hillsborough was selected to receive this donation.”

Welding students are excited to receive new equipment for use in the classroom.

“It means the world to me and my students,” Polman said. “Welders are very expensive, which makes getting new ones challenging. Since welders are multi-process (meaning each welder can weld three different types), this will allow students to get more practice with electrodes and TIG. This Will make them better welders overall and help make the transition from high school to workforce or welding school easier.”

The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology has been extremely generous in this donation. Asked if he had anything else to say, Pohlman simply said: “I am very grateful for the generous donation from the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. This will take my course to the next level while helping students become what they can do the best welder.”
