Learning Parks; Technology democratizes education for all, says Prashant Mishra of TechXR Innovations

Prashant Mishra, Founder, Director, TechXR Innovations, shared with FE Education Online his views on the opportunities and challenges of the Indian education system.

What is the best thing about today’s education system?

E-Learning is the best feature of education today which provides fixed scope for students to learn from various sources at their convenience. As technology advances, education finds its practical purpose. Educational institutions are using smart classrooms to provide a better learning experience on 2D screens. Learning and knowledge has moved from textual scriptures to textbooks with images and then to video-based learning. This shift comes at a time when technology is changing rapidly and helping students visualize challenging concepts. Educators use technology to make education more fun, engaging, and accessible. There are many free online resources where students can learn anything they want and be creative. The democratization of learning through technology is the greatest virtue of today’s education system.

What is the one thing you would like to change about the education system?

Educational institutions should implement a proactive approach by adopting upcoming technologies early. All educational institutions should introduce interactive and immersive learning, through augmented reality and virtual reality, students can not only learn but also experience concepts, thus bringing practical learning fully to life. Even topics such as launching an airplane, dissecting an animal, or working on a nuclear power plant can be experienced virtually through immersive learning. Despite its potential, immersive learning requires expensive, high-end equipment to experience AR/VR.

What role did numbers play in the evolution of the education system?

Technology has greatly facilitated education away from the chalk talk and rote learning models of the past. Digital education helps to achieve the practical purpose of education, which earlier was merely robbing facts for a penny. Students can learn anything from anywhere, even from excellent tutors around the globe. For example, students can also study with Harvard online. Armed with a solid understanding, students become ingenious innovators. Thanks for the technology.

What are the disadvantages of digital education?

Digital education is prone to technical issues that can arise at any time and affect the learning process. Digital learning means more screen time. Looking at screens for long periods of time can have a detrimental effect on students’ eyes. Digital self-learning requires focus, perseverance, self-motivation, and time-management skills, as the internet can be a distraction. Anything that is overused will definitely have its own setbacks.

What career advice would you like to give your students?

Working smart is the secret to success. Students must thoroughly explore all career options and discover their areas of passion. No matter which field you choose, keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in order to thrive. For example, learning Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are current trending technologies that can enhance the intellectual and financial value of students. AR/VR finds practical use cases across all industries; anyone can learn it.
