Lincoln shoppers support local businesses during Small Business Saturday

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Many of those who didn’t go all out on Black Friday shopped for holiday gifts on Saturday while supporting locals.

Small Business Saturday is an initiative started nearly a decade ago to get community members into local stores. For businesses in downtown Lincoln, Saturdays are a way to bring regulars and new customers into their stores and into new towns where many people might not shop.

Threads Footloose and Fancy has been in Lincoln for 47 years. Owner Jane Stricker said Saturday was important to her because it brought the community out and into her old hangout.

“I was born and raised here, and I’ve shopped at Centrum and Atrium, so downtown shopping is something that’s always in my heart,” Stricker said. “So I’m really happy that people might not be used to shopping downtown, but they come to see what we have to offer.”
