Local businesses donate all proceeds to families in need

ODESSA, Texas (COSA) – Tragedy befell a family last week after a house fire left them with all their possessions. Now, a local coffee shop will donate the proceeds to the family.

Karyna Rey-Ortiz, owner of Peaches and Beaches Espresso, was browsing her Facebook page when she saw a post about an Odessa family who lost their home last week.

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, she decided to donate all proceeds from the coffee shop to her family.

“I saw it and I started crying. I couldn’t imagine being in that position. It really broke my heart and I just felt like God put it in my place,” Rey-Ortiz said.

Soila Rodriguez said it has felt like a nightmare since she lost her home a week ago.

Rodriguez said the fire started at the back of the house.

She said she was never given an official cause of the fire, but said she was thankful no one was home when it broke out.

The most important thing for her afterwards is to find a way to get back food, clothes and toys for her son.

Unfortunately for them, when they went back, the baby formula and baby food were gone.

Rodriguez said that in the past week, many people have reached out to them, giving them food, clothing and money.

When Rey-Ortiz went to her and told her about the donation, she couldn’t believe it.

In addition to the money they earn from selling food and drink, they’ll also have a Grinch coming in so the kids can take pictures with them.

All proceeds from the photo will also go to the family.

If you don’t want to buy a drink and just want to donate money to your family, they’ll accept it, too, Rey-Ortiz said.
