Local Realtor, Shoe Designer Takes Business to the Next Level

ROCKFORD, IL (WIFR) – At just 22 years old, Javen Rands is combining his love of design with selling homes. Rands is a successful self-taught shoe designer who has been customizing sneakers since 2017.

“A friend recommended that I start painting on shoes. He noticed that I loved painting and he knew there was a market for it, so I started screwing it up and it really grew into a business,” says Javen

Rands was applying for a real estate license when a client of Rands connected him with Frank Wehrstein, president of Dickerson Nieman Realtors. The relationship developed into a mentor, and Lanz quickly learned how the business worked.

“He has to be able to come up with concepts and ideas, and it’s the same in the housing business. You have to figure out where you are, what style of house it is, who it might appeal to, and it’s the same with his shoe business. So the skill set so far Helped him a lot,” Wellstein said.

Javen says real estate has taught him to be productive and efficient as his two worlds intertwine.
