Locally rooted landscape business looking to grow with new state owner

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – In Geobunga, Kakaako, there is an abundance of pots of all shapes, sizes and colors, river rocks for gardens and pavers for do-it-yourself landscaping projects.

After 13 years in business, owners Layla and Andrew Dedrick sold it to national company Outdoor Living Supply for an undisclosed price.

“They realize how important it is for small businesses to serve their communities and maintain the way the culture has always worked,” Layla Dedrick said.

Dedrick, originally from Waianae and awarded for being a Native Hawaiian entrepreneur, will continue as branch manager.

The new deal gives her a way to expand her business.

“We wanted to bring in another company that could help us do that,” she said.

Geobunga said its business did best during the 2020 and 2021 pandemic when people were buying more for their yards and homes.

“Bring a little peace and tranquility to your space, no matter how big or small. We’re really excited to help people do that,” says Dedrick.

Even with inflation and supply chain issues, Dedrick said Geobunga remains rock solid.

“Relationships are very important in business,” she said.

She expects prices to remain the same as the company’s product selection increases.
