Hoboken, NJ (November 5, 2022) – The Stevens Institute men’s soccer team won its second straight MAC Liberty Championship in dramatic fashion, beating Lycoming College on penalties at home.The game was tied at 110 minutes, senior goalkeeper Justin Cross Was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The defense on both sides was tough on the rules, with each team trying to create an attacking opportunity for the other side. The Ducks and Warriors had one shot each in the first 90 minutes of the game, and Stevens held the overall advantage with a 9-6 shot. After a quiet first half, the pressure and competition intensified in the second half.Two Lycoming players received yellow cards in the 58th and 68th minutes, then the senior Jack Jacquesmot Got a yellow card in the 86th minute. Despite the increased frustration, neither team was able to break through and the game went into overtime.
Stevens controlled the game in overtime, but Lycoming goalkeeper Nick Wilke was competent, making two saves in the final 20 minutes. The Ducks beat the Warriors 6-1 in overtime and got their only corner kick in overtime, but it wasn’t enough and the game went into a penalty shootout.
