airline donate miles
McClellan-Palomar-based charter operator Schubach Aviation is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year by launching its charitable giving program, Miles That Matter. Inspired by retired founder Henry Schubach’s tradition of giving back in San Diego, the program encompasses the company’s charitable contributions, donations and events. The Every Mile Donation donates one cent for every mile flown by Schubach Aviation’s annual private charter flights to San Diego non-profit organizations. This year’s partners are Monarch School, Shelter to Soldier and Curebound. Monarch Schools is a public-private partnership between the San Diego County Office of Education and the nonprofit Monarch Schools Program. It provides services to homeless students. Shelter to Soldier adopts and rescues dogs from local shelters and trains them to be psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 veterans. Curebound raises and invests strategic funding for cancer research programs with the aim of accelerating the clinical application of new discoveries. The organization has raised and invested more than $23 million and funded more than 90 innovative research grants. Visit schubachaviation.com.

SANDAG Pilots Electric Bike Program
SANDAG is partnering with Pedal Ahead to encourage the use of electric bicycles (e-bikes) and make it easier for people to get around their communities. They are recruiting up to 125 new pilot program participants interested in using e-bikes to connect to area transit and/or reduce their reliance on driving for neighborhood trips. Pedal Ahead is an e-bike loan own program that enables SANDAG pilot program participants to work towards owning an e-bike experience by riding at least 100 miles per month for two years, logging their trips and sharing their feedback regularly. Visit pedalaheadsd.org to learn more and to apply to participate.
