Orange County K9s use new scent technology to sniff out missing persons

Orange County, Florida – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is working to achieve results by expanding their resources in finding missing persons.

They hope the new evidence scent kits will help people get home.

The news comes after at least three people have gone missing in central Florida over the past few weeks.

Sheriff John Mina announces a new partnership with the Senior Resource Alliance and Scent Evidence K9.

The collaboration resulted in two new team members, K9 Roscoe and K9 Wyatt, who were trained to track people, and approximately 1,500 scent preservation kits.

Each kit comes with gloves for parents or family members to wear when wiping their loved one with the gauze included in the kit. The best place to pick up scent from a person is to rub gauze on the neck, back of the neck, or armpits.

Once it’s done, the gauze goes into the jar, and if that person disappears, that scent can last for about 10 years.

That’s where the K9s come in — they’re able to smell and track for miles.

The sheriff’s office said the kits are available for public pickup.
