Shot at Walmart, Marietta, Georgia

At least one person was injured in the shooting outside Wednesday a walmart Cobb County police said it was in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta.

Police “At scene of shooting at 2795 Chastain Meadows Pkwy. Multiple injuries. Not active shooter,” police said in a tweet. “There is currently no threat to the public.”

Cobb County Police Chief Ben Cohen later told reporters that at least one person was shot and taken to a local hospital. The person’s condition is unclear.

Police responded to a report of an active shooter, but later determined the shooting was “between two different groups … in the outer area of ​​the Walmart Auto Center,” according to Cohen.

“These are two groups that know each other,” the deputy commissioner said. “They had an altercation … there was no danger to the public.”

Several people were detained for questioning, Cohen said.

The shooting came just weeks after six store employees were killed by gunmen at a Walmart in Virginia. A night shift manager at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, allegedly opened fire with a pistol in the break room on Nov. 22, the state’s third mass shooting in November.

“The initial investigation is still ongoing,” a spokesman for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office and other area agencies are on the scene assisting police, officials told CNN.

“We are aware of the situation and are working closely with local law enforcement,” said Walmart spokeswoman Ashley Nolan.

The Walmart was evacuated, but no one inside was fired, police said.
