Snow, rain, sleet on Thursday

A winter storm continued to impact New Hampshire early Thursday morning, bringing snow, cold conditions and rain, but clearer weather is expected during the day. Winter storm warnings and winter weather warnings remain in effect early in the morning. >> WEATHER ALERT In many parts of the southern two-thirds of the state, early snow has shifted to freezing sleet and rain, and the shift will continue farther north until the storm is over. Snow continued in northern New Hampshire, while the central and western regions saw a bitter winter, and southern New Hampshire began to rain. Highest temperatures will continue into the high 30s to mid-40s in the south, while temperatures in the north will remain in the mid-30s to mid-30s. The White Mountain region could see a few extra inches of snow before the shift. Road Conditions and Power Outages In areas where freezing rain combines with rain, including in the Midwest, roads can be slippery and additional power outages may occur due to wet snow and ice buildup. In southern New Hampshire, roads in the area were flooded and muddy, making morning commutes difficult. There will be light to high winds at times Thursday, with gusts approaching 30 mph, especially in northern New Hampshire and along the coast. The wind could cause breaks in trees and limbs already under stress. Looking Ahead Friday will be partly sunny and cold, with a few snowflakes possible in the northern part of the state, ahead of Saturday’s sun and clouds. A fairly fast-moving winter weather system with the potential for snow is possible Sunday night and Sunday night. Southern New Hampshire could see multiple showers later in the day. Initial snowfall has shifted to freezing sleet and rain in many parts of the southern two-thirds of the state, and the shift will continue farther north until the storm is over. Snow continued in northern New Hampshire, while the central and western regions saw a bitter winter, and southern New Hampshire began to rain.

The highs in the southern region will continue into the high 30s to early 40s, while the northern region will remain in the low to mid 30s.
