Some school districts cancel classes as winter weather hits north Texas

Some school districts in North Texas have canceled classes due to the cold weather.

Most of the schools that decided to close Monday are located west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.

They include Aledo, Argyle, Aubrey, Azle, Brock, Castleberry, Celina, Dublin, Eagle-Mountain-Saginaw, Gordon, Granbury, Jacksboro, Lake Worth, Little Elm, Millsap, Mineral Wells, Northwest, Palo Pinto, Peaster, Poolville, Rains, Santo, Sherman, Stephenville, Tolar, Weatherford, and White Settlement ISDs.

Several school districts in North Texas angered many parents by canceling classes at the last minute on Monday.

Northwest ISD branches span Denton, Tarrant and Wise counties. Schools were closed Monday morning as freezing drizzle made road conditions treacherous.But the news didn’t reach family and staff until around 8am

While the district apologized on social media for the delay, many parents felt the decision should have been made in a more timely manner.

Argyle ISD in Denton County has a similar situation.

Families who have already sent their children home have been told to come back and pick them up. Buses also returned to school around 9am to take students home.

Monday early release

Students from Alvarado, Bland, Bridgeport, Canton, Chico, Community, Crandall, Decatur, Everman, Glen Rose, Godley, Kaufman, Kerens, Krum, Lewisville, Mabank, Malakoff, Muenster, North Lamar, Pilot Point, Pottsboro, S&S, Scurry -Rosser, Sivells Bend, Springtown, Sunnyvale, Terrell, Venus and Whitney ISD will be released early Monday.

At Solder Elementary School in Everman, some families didn’t want to wait until the afternoon. One grandparent told FOX 4 she didn’t want to take any chances.

“Traffic is going to be bad. Really bad. So, I’m just trying to get on my gas. I’m staying home today. I’m not feeling well. I drive in the weather for a living, so I decided to go and pull her out of school early,” said John. Randa Taylor said.

Areas that have already decided to close Tuesday include Commerce, Everman, Keller and Pilot Point ISD.

Kaufman ISD plans to postpone Tuesday classes by two hours.

After school activities canceled

Most North Texas school districts have canceled or rescheduled Monday and Tuesday after-school sports.
