Transport for Wales (TfW) has announced that it has partnered with mobile intelligence company Cityswift to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve the experience for passengers on public transport in Wales.

TfW is working to improve public transport in Wales to encourage more people to use it. As part of the partnership, data analytics work provides TfW with access to new insights and AI-powered runtimes.

From the data provided, TfW has been able to gain insight into the performance of five major bus operators in Wales, with a focus on demand and movement pattern analysis. Using this data, TfW is able to improve bus schedules and punctuality, providing passengers with a more reliable and convenient service and reducing journey times.

Andrew Sherrington, TfW’s Head of Bus Network and Service Development, said: “CitySwift has given TfW a better overall understanding of how the network is functioning. For the first time we have detailed insights into the punctuality, reliability and efficiency of the five major bus operators in Wales. This new intelligence will allow us to work with operators to make buses an even more attractive service for the people of Wales.”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is also using this technology to improve bus service in New York, USA
