Third Annual Welding Competition Kicks Off at Erie Institute of Technology

This is the third annual American Welding Society competition held at the Erie Institute of Technology.

Thirty-eight welders signed up for the competition, which was divided into two categories: one for students and one for professionals. The president of the Northwest Chapter of the American Welding Society (AWS) explained how the competition works.

“We had blueprints for them. They had to have all the parts laid out. It was the GMAW process and the SMAW process. They had an hour to do the testing,” said AWS chairman Jeremy Crytze.

Welders used full carbon steel for the race. Winners received various prizes.
