On behalf of the State Department, the Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Maryland’s Quantum Technology Center (QTC) to establish a public-private partnership. The QTC will provide the sector with technical information and input on the latest developments in quantum technologies and related enabling technologies. It will also facilitate discussions and networking with other U.S. government and industry partners on this emerging technology.
The Department of State plays a critical role in advancing U.S. national and economic security interests in critical and emerging technologies. As noted in the National Security Strategy, technology is at the heart of today’s geopolitical competition, and critical and emerging technologies will reshape the economy, the military, and the world. To meet this challenge, the department will need to understand the convergence of quantum technologies with other emerging technologies and anticipate the global impact of the development and application of this technology. This partnership will ensure that the sector’s international initiatives are based on a sound technical understanding of this emerging field.
