Worcester’s Caola Equipment closes after more than 65 years in business

After approximately 70 years of selling and servicing outdoor power equipment in central Massachusetts, Worcester-based Caola Equipment is closing its doors.

The outdoor power equipment superstore, which has been a Route 9 staple for decades, announced in a statement posted on the company’s website that it will no longer offer any sales, service or parts beginning Dec. 1. Last year’s No. 31, noted “It’s Retirement Time!”

“The decision to close was not an easy one, but the time has come,” the statement said. “Over the past 65+ years, we have developed excellent relationships with our employees, customers and suppliers. Without all of you, our success over the years would not be possible.”

Caola Equipment at 391 Park Ave. is expected to be open for a limited time to pick up equipment and some specials in its showroom. The store says it will be open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm until this Saturday, January 17. 7.

Caola Equipment, an equipment supermarket that also offers maintenance, repair and deliveries, originally opened on Route 20 in Shrewsbury in 1953 before moving to its current larger location in the early 1980s. During that time, the company “remained in the family and remained true to its history,” according to its website.

“To this day, Caola Equipment has not changed its philosophy of running a good business. Caola Equipment has been a family business for over 55 years and continues to provide each customer with a sense of familiarity and importance through exceptional service every day,” the company’s website says.
