York, PA (November 12, 2022) – Sophomore Lucy Alberici A team-high 15 points came off the bench, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team lost Saturday, 66-58, to Catholic University in Game 2 of the 15th Coach of the Year vs. NYU. Cancer Classic, presented by York College of Pennsylvania at the Charles Wolfe Coliseum.
Advanced Danielle Cornetta Got 11 points and 9 rebounds Elissa Nsenkyire and first year Leila Castro Each added nine points for the Ducks, who trailed 1-1.
Keegan Douglas scored a game-high 19 points and Karlie Mulvaney scored 12 as the Catholics made it 2-0. The two teams have split their two historic meetings.
Alberich made 5 of 11 field goal attempts, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, while going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and within one shot of a career high. The Hazlet, N.J., native led all players with 10 points in the first half, making three of her four field goals. In addition to her offensive firepower, Alberici also had a career-high eight rebounds.
A fiery shot gave the Ducks a first-quarter lead. Stevens made 8 of 15 shots (53.3 percent) in the first 10 minutes, 60 percent of which came from behind the arc.After three points in first year, Ducks extend lead to eight Olivia Schubiger Ensen Kyle made a free throw at the last second, sending the Ducks into the second quarter with a 7-point advantage.
The Ducks continued to hold the lead for most of the second quarter. The Cardinals finished the first half with a score of 7-0, which tied the teams at 29 going into the break.
Nsenkyire scored a free throw in the third quarter and the teams traded points until two free throws and a three-pointer by Alberici gave the Ducks a 45-40 lead going into the final quarter.
Douglas scored first with a jumper in the final quarter, setting off an 11-0 run that turned the game around and gave the Catholics a 51-45 lead. Koneta made 1 of 2 shots from the free throw line. After a fast break layup, the Ducks chased the score to 1 point. However, Catholic took a timeout after Cornetta’s shot and quickly responded with a long 3-pointer before closing the window with a 15-8 win over the Ducks over the final four minutes.
The game marked the debut of the freshman year Sofia Bicashe made her only attempt on the field in seven minutes.
